CAPE TOWN SHOWDOWN: OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT RULES
Terminology
Ensure that you familiarise yourself with the following:
Bracket
A flow chart indicating who should play whom at any point in the tournament. The completely deterministic nature of a bracket ensures fair play. This particular tournament features double elimination brackets.
Match
A pairing between two people in the bracket. The two people play each other until a winner is determined. For example, the final match in the tournament determines who gets 1st place and who gets 2nd place. A match is 2 out of 3 games, unless otherwise specified.
Game
A game typically constitutes a fight consisting of 2 out of 3 rounds between two players. For example, a game in Ultra Street Fighter 4 is over when someone wins 2 out of 3 rounds. Make sure you understand the difference between a ‘Match’ and a ‘Game’.
Tournament Organiser
The person ultimately responsible for running the whole tournament.
Tournament Administrators
Tournament officials responsible for overseeing matches and ensuring compliance with tournament rules. While they can help to resolve conflicts, the Tournament Organiser is the ultimate authority in ensuring that the rules are enforced.
Registration
Participants may register online or on the day of the event (30 April 2016).
Registration is free for participants and spectators.
Tournament Structure
Tournament format will be Double elimination and will consist of Winners, Losers and Grand Finals.
The featured tournament game for CTS6 is:
Street Fighter V
Tournament Matches will be ‘best of 3’ (first to win 2 games advances).
Winners, Losers and Grand Finals will be ‘best of 5’ (first to win 3 games). The Winners and Losers finalists will face off against each other in the Grand Finals. In the event that the Winner's finalist is defeated, both players will have to play an additional ‘best of 5’ set to determine the tournament champion.
Match play
Match Play rules are rules that will be in effect during a single match in a tournament.
Choosing Sides
Prior to a tournament match, both players must come to an agreement which side they will play on (who will sit on 1p and who will sit on 2p). If an agreement cannot be reached, the Tournament Administrator will flip a coin to decide who gets to pick their side.
Button checks
Button checks must be done before each match, not during a match. Pausing any time during a game will result in a round forfeiture.
Playing the match
Once sides and characters have been chosen, the match should commence. The following rules go into effect once a game ends:
The match is over when either player wins the required number of games (2 out of 3 matches).
The winner of a game (please note, 'game', not 'match') is not allowed to switch characters.
The loser of a game is allowed to switch characters.
If someone has won the required number of games, the winner of the match should report the result to a Tournament Administrator.
Reporting Rule violations
At some point during the tournament, a player may violate tournament rules. The following applies toward rectifying rule violations:
It is the responsibility of each player to notify the Tournament Administrator/Tournament Organiser of any tournament rule violations.
Players are not allowed to stop a game to report a rule violation. Players who pause a game to report rule violations will be penalised for doing so. Tournament Administrators will be overseeing proceedings and will take the necessary action as required. Players will be expected to raise their hand immediately after witnessing a rule violation so that a Tournament Administrator can make a ruling.
Terms and Conditions
Any tournament players who are not present when they are required to play a match will forfeit the respective match and be sent to the Loser's bracket. If the player in question is already in Loser's, he/she will be knocked out of the tournament. Players are only exempt if they have notified a Tournament Administrator of their whereabouts, or if they are already participating in a match.
PS4 controllers will be available in limited supply. Players are still expected to bring their own controllers.
Right of admission reserved.
This event will adopt a ZERO TOLERANCE policy toward violence, threats of violence, intimidation, and other forms of thuggery. ANY threat of violence or extreme intimidation will result in the Tournament Organiser notifying the necessary authorities. If you don't want to end up in jail for doing something stupid, conduct yourself in a mature, adult manner throughout the course of this event.
No alcohol will be allowed on the premises.
Smoking will not be allowed inside of the venue. Please make use of the designated smoking areas.
No use or possession of weapons or any items intended to inflict physical harm will be tolerated. The necessary authorities will be notified in the event that anyone is found to be in breach of this rule. You have been warned.
No use or possession of illegal drugs or substances will be allowed at the venue. Anyone in breach of this rule will be removed from the premises.
No public demonstration of pornography or any other unsuitable material will be allowed at the venue. Anyone in breach of this rule will be removed from the premises.
Anyone found to be responsible for damages to hardware or equipment used at the event will be held liable.
The Tournament Organiser will not be held liable for any loss of any kind resulting from the attendance of this event.
Please note that these rules are an attempt to ensure that the tournament runs fairly and as smoothly as possible. However, unforeseen circumstances may require a special response, and for that reason the Tournament Organiser reserves the right to change any of the tournament rules or remove any player at any time, for any reason, at their sole discretion.
